Hurricane Katrina created a sense of both self-sufficiency and skepticism in Mobile, Alabama that still exists today. Down on this coast, locals hesitate to believe that any support from either the government or BP is on its way. Tammy Herrington of Mobile Baykeeper cherishes the waterways along this coast. We met her in the Gulf, where she expressed her fear of the unknown chemical make-up of the dispersants and looming reality that hurricane season was approaching. Today, Tammy shudders at the thought of the more than 1.3 million gallons of toxic dispersants that have already been dropped in the Gulf amidst the realization that hurricane season has arrived.

In our latest Letters from the Field posting, Tammy writes of the dread facing her community.

We along the Gulf Coast are experts at waiting for a hurricane. However, unlike a hurricane, this gulf disaster has been a slow excruciating onslaught which feels more like an invasion than a storm. There is no end so far to this invasion, nor do we yet comprehend the extent of the damage it will cause to this area we love.

She shares her heartache about the possibility that her daughters have enjoyed the beauty of the Gulf for the last time.

My daughters are nine and eleven, and we spent our Spring Break this year traveling the coast of Florida and Alabama all the way from Wakulla Springs back to Dauphin Island. At the end of a beautiful week of family time, scenic vistas and a great bounty from our local waterways, we vowed to spend more time on the water this year. Little did we know what was about to unfold. On the day that oil washed into Dauphin Island, my daughter's best friend stood in the Gulf with tears streaming down her face. Explaining to my children and others how this has happened and answering questions on how long it will take to restore our home has been one of the most challenging things I have had to face.

Sadly, Tammy faces challenges beyond her local estuaries and speaks of the bureaucratic hurdles they are being forced to jump through. Her anger builds as she witnesses the ocean's delicate ecosystem being destroyed against the backdrop of BP's insufficient reaction to the damage on the shores and in the water.

Each week brings a new challenge for our area. Recently we began receiving reports that local property owners were being told by contractors that they were responsible for cleanup of their own property — that BP was only cleaning up public lands. We fought for these property owners by going to Unified Command to ask for help in how to address this problem and also by going before Secretary of Commerce, Gary Locke when he visited Mobile…Our goal to prevent the oil from reaching the shore altogether is challenged by use of dispersants which drop the oil throughout the entire water column, making the boom useless as a last line of resort to protect our shores. We are now watching large deep water fish and sharks coming into the shallow waters closer to shore in an attempt to flee the oil deep within the Gulf of Mexico…

When we met Tammy last month, she was steely and determined to protect the coastline's most vulnerable areas. Today, despite the parade of bad news from BP and the threat of water contamination in Mobile Bay at any time, the Baykeepers have not lost their steady resolve. In proud defiance of the impending reality of contaminated waterways, and with determination to continue to provide the best aid possible, they held their annual triathlon fundraiser — a fundraiser, more important now, than ever.

The Friday before the event, one of our Field observers called with a report that she thought she had found oil in Mobile Bay, close to the area where the swim would occur. There was also the strong odor of oil in the air, and we called in the EPA to test the air quality to ensure the safety of the racers. We called officials from every state agency charged with protecting our health, to get water quality testing results and to ask for advice on how to proceed. When all of the tests came back fine we sent out the Mobile Baykeeper boat to check out the water south of us to make sure we were safe to proceed. The morning of the race, when the gun went off and swimmers began to pour into Mobile Bay, it felt like a victory. We know it may be our last race for quite some time where it is safe to swim in the bay we know and love, but this year we celebrated as we beat the oil on race day. We all hope we can beat it in the end.

Tammy writes, “Mobile Baykeeper's message for years has been that you can't have a healthy economy without a healthy environment; that the two go hand in hand.” The evidence is mounting now in the Gulf that a fossil-fuel based economy is unhealthful for us, the environment and our future. Stories like Tammy's are vivid reminders that now is the time to shift to an economy reliant on clean, renewable energy, an economy that provides safe and sustainable jobs, respects our environment and all the life dependent upon it, and frees our kids from ever worrying about splashing around in ocean waves.

The 11th Hour Project supports this transition to a restorative economy. This series highlights the individual stories of struggle inherent in this journey.

Yes, I agree with you. Chaney would have managed this gulf crisis much better. Halliburton… makes me giggle when they come up in the Left's attempts to argue a point. They love bringing up the Halliburton bogey man. Hallibuton has been working closely with this administration as have other major corporations. It's just when your leftist take over corporations with tax payer funded dollars and bailouts to prop them up when they fail like government agencies are they embraced and loved.

Here's information to help you better understand how inept this Pres really is…Yesterday Team Obama finally approved Bobby Jindal's plan to build miles of berms of dredged sand to stop the oil from getting to the wetlands of Louisiana.

The permit to build and the order to have BP pay were requested from the feds on May 11.

It took three weeks of increasing pressure and media attention to finally push the president to act –three weeks when the construction could have been underway.

First, look in vain for details on when the application was made and on the waffling that followed.

Then, read this line from today's Washington Post story with the knowledge that the feds approved funding for 2% of the berms on Friday May 28: “The Army Corps of Engineers issued six permits in late May to build up about 50 of the 100 miles of barrier islands requested by Louisiana.”

Every time the World Cup roles around soccer aficionados in the Unites States hope this will be the years soccer goes mainstream in America. In the 16 years since New York City hosted the World Cup the nation has been making baby steps towards that end, and the numbers this year are certainly encouraging — more people watched than watched “the Kentucky Derby or the final round of the Masters golf tournament or the Daytona 500, the jewel in NASCAR’s crown.” Surprised? Probably not if you were one of the millions of people that has caused almost every World Cup game to show up on Google trends.

This news however, may not be reassuring to some on the American political right who apparently hate soccer. In this week’s New Yorker Hendrik Hertzberg examines the phenomenon, and namechecks Glenn Beck (in what I think marks his second appearance in the New Yorker). Here is the short version: Because nothing in this country can currently be popular without being politically polarized the right has concluded only Socialists like soccer, and if the U.S. becomes a nation of soccer fans it’s because President Obama is secretly a socialist. Here’s Hertzberg’s version:

Back in 1986, Jack Kemp, the former Buffalo Bills quarterback turned Republican congressman, took the House floor to oppose a resolution supporting America’s (ultimately successful) bid to host the 1994 World Cup. Our football, he declared, embodies “democratic capitalism”; their football is “European socialist.” Kemp, though, was kidding; he was sending himself up. Today’s conservative soccer scolds are not so good-natured.

Their complaints are variations on the theme of un-Americanness. “I hate it so much, probably because the rest of the world likes it so much,” Glenn Beck, the Fox News star, proclaimed. (Also, “Barack Obama’s policies are the World Cup.”) What really bugs “silly leftist critics,” the Washington Times editorialized, is that “the most popular sports in America—football, baseball, and basketball—originated here in the Land of the Free.” At the Web site of the American Enterprise Institute, the Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen, formerly a speechwriter for George W. Bush, wrote, “Soccer is a socialist sport.” Also, “Soccer is collectivist.” Also, “Perhaps in the age of President Obama, soccer will finally catch on in America. But I suspect that socializing Americans’ taste in sports may be a tougher task than socializing our healthcare system.”

Image Credit: ABC Family10 Things I Hate About You wrapped up its under-appreciated one-season run on ABC Family last night, and, quite frankly, I don’t know what went wrong here. The dialogue snapped, the plotlines crackled, and the characters popped — not easy to do in the tired high-school genre. It had the name recognition of the beloved Julia Stiles/Heath Ledger movie but didn’t get bogged down in its legacy. The cast — Lindsey Shaw, Meaghan Jette Martin, Ethan Peck, dad Larry Miller — couldn’t have been better. I know, I know, these things happen to good shows all the time. I just want my eulogy to be complete.

The two-part, hour-long series finale — which was clearly not intended as its swan song, since it ended on a cliffhanger — brought us all of the things we fans have grown to love about this show. Kat, characteristically, took up Buddhism, bringing on a hilarious (but still respectful) send-up of the school “meditation collective.” Bianca’s boyfriend competed in model reality show The Next Biggest Poser, bringing us some classic Top Model parody. (“Coliviette just fainted during our photo shoot so we have the phone until she revives. Then she’s gonna want to call her baby.”) And our girls had a sweet sisterly moment out in Kat’s tent when she was practicing for her trip to Nepal. Kat: “I don’t wanna forage for roots or wear snowpants … and he didn’t try to stop me.” Bianca: “I’m stopping you. I need you here.”

Alas, there will be no more of that for us — nor will we ever to bask in Kat and Patrick’s post-coital glow again. That’s just one thing I’ll miss about 10 Things I Hate About You. How about you, PopWatchers? What will you miss?

KING: I know you're going down to the Gulf again. But there's a question that a lot of us are pondering. After this is over, what about hurricanes? What about oil raining down? Have we thought about what we're going to do when it's over?

KING: This is worse than what you thought it would be?

KING: Have the scientists discussed, what about a hurricane?

KING: Senator Nelson wants the Defense Department, he says, more fully involved- more troops.

KING: So if he says troops, he'll get troops?

KING: What part of it is your baby? What part of it is the country and not BP?

KING: Some- I know you appear so calm. Are you angry at BP?

KING: Has the company felt your anger?

KING: Governor Jindal, the governor of Louisiana, he's asked you to- he's got concerns about the impact of stopping- of the moratorium you have on drilling. And now, that's been extended to the shallow waters, as well. What would you say to him?

KING: For the record, just before I sat down with the president, there was a report that the Minerals Management Service had stopped issuing permits for new oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, regardless of the water depth. Hence my question to the President. The Interior Department has since denied that it did extend the drilling freeze to include shallow waters.

During the third segment, King moved on to the current developments between Israel and her neighbors in the Middle East, and also asked one question about his recent meeting with Arizona Governor Jan Brewer over the illegal immigration issue.

KING: A couple of other things- former President Carter has condemned the Israeli raid against those ships in the flotilla trying to break the blockade of Gaza. Where do you stand on that? A former American president has condemned it.

KING: It's premature, then, to condemn Israel?

KING: You met with the Arizona governor today. Will the administration bring a legal challenge to that law?

The CNN personality really broke out the softball questions during the final segment with Obama, asking about his poll numbers, about NBA star James's possible move to Chicago, and hosting McCartney at the White House. The President brought up the upcoming jobs report, and King only replied that "tomorrow it will come out." So if it wasn't for the Democrat bringing up that economic figure, King would have skipped over the entire topic completely.

KING: A couple of other quick things, because I know we have a little bit of a time limit. First, do you still like this job?

KING: No matter what a poll says?

KING: It's 48 percent. Is that all right?

KING: And one other thing. LeBron James is with us tomorrow night. We pre-interviewed him. And he says, all things being equal, he's probably leaning toward Cleveland. That's where he grew up, in Akron. But he grew up a Bull fan. You want him to go to Chicago, right? What did you say? Clear it up.

KING: I saw you singing to 'Michelle' last night with Paul McCartney. That was a pretty nice kick, huh?

Despite the "little bit of a time limit," King had plenty of opportunities to ask about his administration's possible involvement in two political races in Colorado and Pennsylvania. One might guess basketball and pop music just matter more to the CNN veteran.

King James Version

by Peter Funt

MIAMI – In his first satellite interview with a female network correspondent from an evening newscast not employed by a cable company, basketball superstar LeBron James today disclosed why he chose to play next season for the Miami Heat.

“At the Cleveland airport I saw a headline that said RECORD HEAT,” James told Katie Couric. “I assumed they were talking about me, and it was some kind of sign.”

Couric fired back: “You mean you didn’t know that temperatures were over 100 degrees in many sections of the East?” James insisted it was “an honest mistake,” explaining that he had been huddled with advisors day and night, and “we’ve got air conditioning in all the suites.”

Asked if he might reconsider his plans in light of the mistake, James said he would have an announcement about that in a few days during a three-hour HBO LaBron-a-thon, “Decision II,” to be hosted by Oprah Winfrey. “The Heat was never going to be my only team anyway,” James told Couric. “My plans have always included the possibility that during the summer I could also play for the Yankees. I don’t know a lot about baseball, but the Yankee organization has made me a very attractive offer. I only want to play with winners.”

In the second hour of his live interview with the CBS anchor, James was asked how he felt about news reports showing fans in Cleveland burning his jersey. “I huddled with my advisors about that,” James said. “They assured me that we now have a line of highly flammable jerseys available at www.KingJames.com that are perfect for burning. They’re made from recycled mattress covers in cribs that came from China.”

Just as the third hour of the interview with Couric was beginning, James said that after exchanging text messages with his advisors during the commercial break, he was pleased to announce that he would be donating 10 percent of his payment from CBS to the LeBron James Foundation, which trains kids in how to negotiate if ever offered big sports contracts.

“We’re not paying you anything,” Couric explained.

Upon hearing that, James and his advisors abruptly left the studio. CBS was forced to fill the remainder of the hour with highlights of an interview James recorded earlier in the day with noted sports reporter Chip Caray.

In the daytime, regional, cable exclusive with Caray, it was disclosed that James had seen a headline in Miami saying OIL ON FLORIDA BEACHES. James explained: “I thought if there’s so much oil in Florida that it’s just washing up on the beach, free for the taking, this must certainly be a great place to get rich.”

James added, “Whatever happens, I’m always going to surround myself with winners.”

The need to balance all major components of physical fitness are important to consider when designing a health and fitness exercise program. There are 5 components of physical fitness that really need to be focused on when building a fitness plan. Not considering these particular components will yield a fitness regimen that is not considered complete. Therefore, when designing your fitness workout, it is highly recommended to concentrate on physical improvement for each of the fitness components listed below.

Listed here are my five major components of physical fitness. Cardio respiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and body composition. When designing a fitness program consider all 5 components of physical fitness. By considering each of these components you will most likely have a more complete, and effective workout.

Below is a list of the five fitness components along with several other important physical fitness components to keep in mind.

Let's discuss muscle strength first. Strength is the component of physical fitness which determines the exact extent in which the muscles and body can exert force while being resisted. Power is the way we exert maximum amounts of energy in quick movements like making a fast running start. Agility is how well a person can perform a lot of power movements in succession although in opposite directions. Football players, and tennis pro's show great agility in their respective sports. Balance records how well a person can control their position while they are either moving or stationary. Flexibility is the way we can move our bodies in certain ways without impediment by stiff muscles or even body fat. Body composition is how the amount of fat and lean muscle in the body is determined. A person's body weight may not be indicative of how fit they really are so it is important to measure the percentage of body fat a particular person has.

The next physical fitness component measures the endurance levels of various things. Local muscle endurance is the ability of a particular isolated muscle to perform repeated actions requiring energy or force. Cardiovascular endurance judges how well a person's heart can deliver blood, and oxygen to the muscles in the body as well as the ability to utilize it. Strength endurance is the muscle's ability to effectively perform an action using maximum power over a sustained period of time. Co-ordination is the ability to effectively combine other components of physical fitness to perform tasks.

If you keep in mind each of these components of fitness you can be assured of designing the most complete exercise program. That is, in accordance to your goals, and medical history. It is always important to consider your goals, and medical history prior to designing any fitness program. Always match your goals, and medical history with the major components of physical fitness.

Considering the five components of physical fitness are very important.

All of the components of physical fitness are important in their own unique manner. Please note that cardiovascular and cardio respiratory endurance are extremely important because it is the areas that most affect how well the other components perform. The bodies ability to distribute oxygen through the blood becomes the fuel supply to the muscles, enabling them to work.

Exercise activities that keep the heart rate high for a sustained period of time such as walking, biking, jogging, or swimming can improve cardiovascular endurance. Cardiovascular exercise does not have to be overly aggressive; rather it is more effective to be built up progressively to a faster pace over time. This can help to build up muscular strength, and endurance especially when combined with weight lifting. The greater muscle endurance improves, the longer they can be exerted with fatigue. Finally, flexibility is related to the range in which a joint can move; generally the greater the flexibility, the less chance of muscle injuries occurring.

Since it is important to consider the main components of fitness while designing your workout program you can refer to powerful results producing physical fitness articles. Discovering the most effective way to design a fitness program with consideration of the 5 components of physical fitness can be very beneficial. So the next time you think about your fitness workout consider improving these physical fitness components.

The more advanced DVD players are capable of playing back a wide range of drives, besides just DVDs. The DVD players can play back DVD RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, CD audio, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3, WMA, JPEG, MPEG 4, VCR, picture CD, SVCD, DVCD, and DivX. These DVD players are available with various features and a wide price range. The DVD players' manufacturers decide upon the types of features to incorporate and the type of discs that are supported, taking into account consumer demands and affordability.

Region free DVD players are generally designed to read all the various discs and are therefore higher priced in the market. They are widely available in all the Region 2 countries including UK, France, Italy, Greece, and Spain. In these countries, it is legal to own and use region free DVD players if used for non-commercial purpose.

CD-R

There are two types of CDs, the CD-R and the CD-RW. CD-R (Compact Disc-Recordable) is a variation of the digital audio disc and was invented by Philips and Sony, in 1988. The CD-Rs were first produced by the companies Taiyo Yuden, Kodak, Maxell, and TDK. They are capable of storing music or data. The CD-R is burned using laser. The standard CD-R is a polycarbonate disc of 120mm or 80 mm diameter and a 1.2 mm thickness. These standard CD-Rs have a storage capacity of 74 minutes of audio or 650 MB (Mega Byte) of data.

The non-standard CD-Rs can store 702 MB data and 79 minutes and 59 seconds of audio. The writable surface of the CD-R has a spiral groove, which guides the laser beam for writing and reading information. The spiral groove side is coated with a thin layer of organic dye, followed by a thin layer of silver, a silver alloy, or gold. Then a final protective layer of lacquer, which is photo-polymerizable, is coated as a thin layer, and is cured using UV light in the end. This is how a blank disc is prepared. The data is inscribed on the spiral groove. For writing data on a CD-R, the laser physically burns the organic dye by heating to a certain level. This area on the disc that has been written upon turns opaque to the laser and reflects less light than the other areas. When a CD-R is written upon, its organic dye undergoes an irreversible decomposition. Hence once a CD-R is written upon, it is permanent and cannot be erased or re-used.

Three Methods for Writing on a CD-R using a CD Recorder

There are three methods used for writing on a CD-R using a CD recorder. In the “Disc At Once” technique, the CD is written completely in one go, and thereafter “Closed,” such that no more data can be added to it subsequently. This type of recording is commonly utilized in “Live” audio recordings. This CD-R becomes a read-only CD.

The “Track At Once” technique is used for recording one track at a time, leaving the CD-R open for further additions subsequently. These CDs are capable of storing both data and audio. The third technique is the “Packet Writing” system in which the data is recorded as appendages, allowing for new data to be added later. These CD-Rs are very similar in functioning to CD-RWs. However, due to this technique, certain DVD players are unable to read these CD-Rs.

CD-RW

A CD-RW or “Compact Disc Re Writable,” as the name suggests, is a CD disc on which data can be written, erased, and rewritten. A CD-RW is capable of re-writing as many as 1,000 to 100,000 times, depending on the type of disc. A CD-RW is also capable of erasing single files at a time.

The CD-RW is similar to the CD-R in most of the recording and usage aspects. These are compatible for “Disc At Once” and “Packet Writing” just like the CD-R. The CD-RW discs are written using the technology of “Phase-Change”. When written upon, the laser alters the physical state of the writable layer from crystalline phase to the amorphous phase. The refractive index of the crystalline form differs from that of the amorphous form and makes the disc optically readable.

Multi Read and Multi Play

The CD-R and CD-RW can be played back conveniently on the CD players. There are a number of DVD players that can play only DVD discs and are incapable of reading the CDs. This is due to certain technological disparities between the two formats. The CD-R, CD-RW, and DVDs are read using different laser specifications. The CD-R is read using infrared 780nm laser, while the DVD is read by a visible red 635nm or 650nm laser. The CD-RW can be read by the 650nm laser, since its recording layer is not very dependant on the laser wavelength for being read.

Also, the optical device used for reading DVDs has a numerical aperture of 0.60 as opposed to 0.45 used for CD-R. So, certain DVD players cannot read CD-R discs and need to be fitted with a dual laser to be able to read CD-Rs also. Most DVD players are capable of reading CD-RW, but in some cases, the optical system of the DVD is not sensitive enough to read the signal change and lower reflectivity of a CD-RW.

The consumers usually demand DVD systems that are capable of handling all types of discs. The DVD players were modified to be able to read and play other discs by incorporating the MultiRead and MultiPlay features. This is possible by the addition of an extra laser optical pickup that generates both types of wavelengths. The MultiRead format was created in 1997 by OSTA. This was devised to link together the CD and DVD technologies, and enable the DVD players to read CD-R and CD-RW discs.

The OSTA formulated MultiPlay in 2000, to enable the CD and DVD electronic devices to be compatible with CD-R and CD-RW devices. Thereafter, the MultiRead and MultiPlay compliant DVD players and recorders are able to play both CD-R and CD-RW discs. Most of the compliant DVD devices provide a MultiRead and MultiPlay logo sticker on the box to be recognized by the consumer.

Where to get REGION FREE DVD players/recorders. To prevent the latest movies from reaching countries where a film has not reached theaters yet, Hollywood studios imposed a block. This regional coding is a digital flag on the disc that tells the DVD player where a particular DVD comes from. This is supposed to prevent the disc from being used by an incompatible player in another country. A normal DVD player can only play discs designated for the player's own particular region. However, a codefree DVD player is a capable of playing DVD discs from anywhere around the world. A codefree DVD player can play DVD discs from all 6 regions and both standards, PAL and NTSC. That's every DVD movie on earth! PAL-NTSC 110-220 volts DVD/VCR Combos for use worldwide. LeBron James is about to announce where he'll be playing on ESPN. Well, at least we hope he spills the beans immediately. The intro for the ESPN special, “The Decision,” is ridiculous, calling him the “most coveted” free agent of all time. ESPN's sources still claim he's going to Miami, but Chris Broussard said there are “so many twists and turns” that he could head to NY, Chicago or stay in Cleveland. Sorry, NJ!

9:05 p.m.: It's still ESPN packages about how great LeBron is. Time to check LeBron James' Ego on Twitter: “GETTIN READY TO DO THE DAMN THING BUT SO MANY THINGS ARE ON MY MIND LIKE WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH LINDSAY LOHAN? GIRL IS LUNCHIN.”

9:07 p.m.: Blah blah blah more ESPN stuff. We get a shot of LeBron in the Boys and Girls Club gymnasium with Jim Gray; LeBron is wearing a gingham shirt. Jon Barry still thinks LeBron should go to Chicago. Broussard agrees that Chicago is a better fit with Derrick Rose, Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah, but says “you can't argue with Miami” given that Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.

9:18 p.m.: ESPN claims that LeBron will be talking after the next commercial pod. We'll see.

9:22 p.m.: Jim Gray asks LeBron what's been going on this summer. To note — there's a huge Vitamin Water cooler in the back of the audience (VM is a sponsor). King James says the process has been everything he's expected and more. He claims not many know his decision.

9:25 p.m.: Blah blah blah, Gray is asking how knows, when James has made up his mind, does the team know. James: The last time he changed his mind was in his dreams; the team apparently just found out.

James says the major factor was for him to “win now…Winning is a huge thing to me, Jim, you know that.”

9:27 p.m.: “I'm taking my talents to South Beach and joining the Miami Heat,” because it's the best opportunity to win championships. “I never wanted to leave Cleveland. My heart will always be around that area. But I also felt this is the greatest challenge for me, to move on… It's not like leaving Cleveland…it's about joining forces with the other guys…and winning for multiple years. If this was a perfect world, I would stay. I've done so many great things for the team, they've done so many great things for me…. This is a very emotional time for me.”

LeBron James announced Thursday night that he’ll be playing for the Miami Heat next year. James made this announcement during a one-hour special on ESPN. How did ESPN manage to fill an hour of prime-time programming with a grain of information that I’ve already conveyed in that two-line introduction? The same way American Idol results shows manage to exist — by padding it with a bunch of time-wasting nonsense, obviously. Here are the five most impressively insulting examples:

1. Photoshops Of LeBron In Five Different Jerseys

“With just minutes before the big announcement,” proclaimed Stuart Scott, “let’s take a look at what LeBron James would look like wearing the jerseys of his five different suitors.” ESPN then showed that photo above, which is not news, information, or a thing.

But what would LeBron James look like if he played…ON THE MOON?

Thanks, Worldwide Leader In Sports and Theoretical Photoshops! Now let’s see what LeBron would look like if they killed him with a barrage of baseballs…

Onto the rest…

2. It Was Sponsored By Bing.com

The special was called “The Decision” (note the thrilling description)…

And the whole thing was sponsored by Bing.com, whose tagline is “Stop searching, start deciding”:

This whole unnecessary program was a sham perpetrated by Bing’s advertising dollars, wasn’t it?

I decide “No sh*t.”

3. Reaction Shots = These Dudes

After the announcement, Stuart Scott teased another clip, “Now let’s see what the reaction was like in Miami when the news was announced…” which led crazy, unreasonable Me to believe they were gonna cut to some downtown Miami “LeBron Watching” party that would erupt when the news was announced, as sports often do during Drafts or road playoff games.

What we got, instead, was this shot of one Miami bar and about five Entourage extras D-bagging into the camera:

That is some reaction, you two guys! One of whom is in a Cleveland jersey! I’m gonna compile a one-hour special about why I was so happy they didn’t cut this show down to a half hour.

4. Footage Of This LeBron Jersey Burning

In the middle of Michael Wilbon’s via-satellite interview with LeBron after the announcement, ESPN suddenly cut to this footage of Cleveland fans burning LeBron’s Cavs jersey, and Wilbon asked LeBron how he felt about it:

Now, QUICK! Your reaction to THIS PICTURE:

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THAT, YOU TRAITOR PUSSY? I’m paraphrasing.

5. The Cavs Owner Wrote A Letter To Cleveland Fans In COMIC SANS

Alright, this wasn’t technically part of the ESPN broadcast, but after the announcement, Cavaliers Majority Owner Dan Gilbert issued an open letter to Cavs fans on the team’s website (click pic for full size, to get the total Sans Experience):

It’s already insulting to be told that your team will be fine after losing LeBron James; being told this information in Comic Sans font, well…that just goes way past ‘depressing’ and into ‘almost perversely amusing’ and then past that even further into ‘utterly hypertragic’.

I feel truly sorry for all my Cleveland-fan friends today, and I don’t say that as a sarcastic Pittsburgh fan (I’m indifferent towards the Cavs anyway), this pretty much sucks any way you look at it. At least ESPN handled the announcement with the level of attention-whoring and self-aggrandizement truly befitting LeBron James himself. Maybe that was ESPN’s meta-point this whole time? WHOA. Literature.

Lebron James by NBA 1

As we are approaching 2010 free agency, we are finally ready for the madness.

The biggest fish in this free agent frenzy certainly is LeBron James, and recently we’ve been hearing many potential destinations for the King, most notably Chicago and Miami.

However, I will prove that the best situation for LeBron James is with the New York Knicks.

LeBron James is the biggest free agent in NBA history, and whichever team is landing him could presumably be the favorites to win the NBA finals next season.

LeBron, however, is not only looking to win next season, but looking to establish an all time great legacy that will rival that of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and Kobe Bryant.

Believe it or not, going to Chicago will prevent LeBron James from doing so.

Chicago has some major question marks.

Bulls owner Jerry Reinsdorf has never payed the luxury tax, and will have to if he plans to build a winning core that will last.

Let’s say the Bulls sign LeBron James and Chris Bosh to max contracts. Soon Derrick Rose will become a free agent and demand a max contract as well.

Remember Reinsdorf is the owner who broke up the Bulls dynasty due to not wanting to commit to Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen through the twilight of their careers.

Reinsdorf will eventually face a similar situation when Rose and Noah are eligible for new contracts.

Knicks owner James Dolan has shown consistently that he’s willing to commit money and pay the luxury tax.

Dolan even shelled out major money towards some bad teams in contrast to Reinsdorf who wasn’t even willing to keep a dynasty together.

The Knicks unlike the Bulls have a plan that goes past 2010 free agency.

While both the Knicks and Bulls can sell LeBron on the prospect of playing alongside a superstar, preferably Chris Bosh, the Knicks can sell LeBron on the future past 2010.

After this season Eddie Curry’s contract comes off the books and the Knicks will have the cap space to make a run at a Carmelo Anthony.

The Knicks could also use Eddie Curry’s contract in a trade for a player like Chris Paul, or Carmelo Anthony if Anthony decides to leave Denver, or a floor general like Tony Parker.

It could take time but the Knicks can sell LeBron on the fact that they can build a long-term winner.

The prospect that is the summer of 2011 is something no other team can make to LeBron James.

The Bulls currently have a solid nucleus in Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Luol Deng, but that nucleus doesn’t fit with LeBron.

Derrick Rose has never played off the ball, and like LeBron Rose is most dominant when he has the ball in his hands, looking to score or make plays.

I don’t know if Rose can play off the ball and be a knockout shooter. Rose will have to reduce his role, and he is still learning how to be a lead guard in the NBA.

The Bulls also have no shooters. They traded away their best shooter Kirk Hinrich in order to free up cap space for LeBron.

The Knicks have Danilo Gallinari, one of the best shooters in the NBA.

Gallinari shot 38 percent from behind the arc, he was second in the NBA in 3 pointers made, and he’s only 21 years old. LeBron James likes to penetrate and Gallinari is a perfect knock down shooter to play with LeBron.

With the Knicks, LeBron could assume the role of playmaker in Mike D’Antoni’s offense and run an offense similar to Pat Riley’s “Showtime” with the Lakers.

LeBron James, Danilo Gallinari, Wilson Chandler, and a big man like Chris Bosh would provide one of the most explosive offenses in the league, one good enough to come out of what looks like a watered down Eastern conference.

Then you add the fact that the Knicks will have the cap space to acquire marquee names in 2011, or trade for another superstar, the team would then have a core that can last long-term, and the ultimate goal for LeBron is to build a long term contender that will help him establish an all time legacy.

The Chicago Bulls recently hired former Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau.

While Thibodeau was the orchestrator of the Celtics stingy defense, he has no familiarity with LeBron James in contrast to Mike D’Antoni who spent much time with LeBron because D’Antoni was on the USA basketball coaching staff.

Thibodeau is an unproven head coach who has never coached an NBA game. Yes, LeBron preaches defense and Thibodeau is a defensive minded coach, but LeBron James knows nothing about Tom Thibodeau.

LeBron has a solid relationship with Mike D’Antoni, and would fit well in his system.

Reality is that the Knicks have much more to offer than the Bulls when it comes to the bigger picture.

The Knicks have the chance to get better in 2011, plus they have many players coming off the books in 2012.

The Bulls can promise immediate success, but with the Bulls, the pieces don’t fit, and it won’t allow LeBron James to build an all time legacy.

LeBron James fits perfectly in a city like New York, a big time player like LeBron would embrace the city of New York.

LeBron is friends with Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia who told James about the prospect of playing in New York.

If LeBron wins in New York, he will own the city and enhance his status as a global icon.

This is in stark contrast to Chicago where no one will replace Michael Jordan, and Miami where the fans lack the passion of the inhabitants of the world’s most famous arena.

This decision could be the biggest in NBA history.

LeBron James will consider all his options but New York is the best long-term option.

The Knicks have been waiting over two years for this moment, and after a decade of bad basketball the fans expect to see a winner next season.

The Knicks brass will go out to visit LeBron James in Akron, and the King expects to make a decision around July 5th.

LeBron James is looking to go to a place where he can win multiple titles and enhance his status as a global icon.

New York is the best fit.

- LOL!! yes yes yes yes yes!! thank you guys for the friday night lights love!!! by far it is one of my favorite tv shows of all time. such a brilliantly executed show. i totally agree with you guys on the season 2 issues – i wont name the spoilers – but we all know which storyline brought this show to the brink of shark jumping.

regardless, its too good. ive heard the upcoming 5th season will be the last, and while im surprised we got that many seasons, 5 seasons seem like just about the perfect run. kyle chandler & taylor kitsch are toooooooooo good. on par with anybody else currently performing on tv.

- 5INAL destination absolutely looks like anal destination. laughed my ass off.

- i feel we will absolutely see 'let me in'. not even a doubt in my mind that overture will get this to theaters. there's too much online buzz – even if its apprehensively negative.

my issue with this film, is exactly what adam said: what the hell is the point of making a shot for shot remake? i had heard they were going to use more of the novel, parts that were left out of the original film. but from this trailer i see none of it. the authors name escapes me, but he not only wrote the book, but both screenplays. so we're in good hands, but im wondering if it was a studio decision to seemingly make pretty much the same film – only in english.

- and finally, m night's TLA…how could he watch this film and think he succeeded WHATSOEVER? i won't elaborate cuz its all been said. but this film was horribly written & directed. let me say that again: THIS FILM WAS HORRIBLY WRITTEN & DIRECTED. i dont even care about the 3D or FX, because it was a trainwreck on page, and night seems to have lost any conviction in how he guides his actors. jesus christ what a mess.

GREAT EPISODE GUYS!!!!! Thanks

Gold nanoparticles are also known as 'colloidal gold' or sometimes 'nano-gold.' New and innovative nano-gold applications appear to have the potential to overcome some of the serious challenges facing humankind over the coming few decades according to recent research published by the World Gold Council. Over the last ten years, some USD 50 billion of government funding has been invested into nanotechnologies, and this investment is now starting to bear fruit with a steady stream of commercially viable nanotechnologies that impact on human health, the environment and technology.

Nano-Gold colloids exhibit different colours at different sizes and concentrations

Unique Properties

Nanotechnology is fairly new to our civilisation, but it turns out that colloidal gold has been around since ancient times and it was originally used to stain glass. The Romans found that they could get several colours out of the same gold particles simply by adding water and diluting the potion. It was rediscovered by Michael Faraday in the 1850s and almost immediately became one of science's favourite substances. Gold nanoparticles exhibit a variety of unique properties which, when harnessed and configured effectively, lead to new materials and systems whose uses are both far-ranging in their potential and cost effective.

Environment and Resources

Environmental concerns are increasingly prominent in the global collective consciousness. Major issues that dominate headlines every day include: falling energy reserves; clean water scarcity; countering climate chaos; as well as pollution prevention and control. Gold nano-particle based technologies are showing great promise in providing solutions to a number of environmentally important issues from greener production methods of chemical feed-stocks, to countering pollution and water purification.

Catalysts and Clean Energy

Gold-based catalysts are now being developed that can effectively prevent the release of highly toxic forms of mercury into the atmosphere, the reduction of chemicals from green feedstock, and also for water purification and contaminant detection. In addition, gold is being used in meeting the challenge of constructing cost effective and efficient fuel cells, a key 'clean-energy' technology of the future.

Health Care

The diagnosis and treatment of diseases such as cancer represents a significant challenge to humanity. Tumour targeting technologies which exploit gold's inherent bio-compatibility are being developed to deliver drugs directly into cancerous tumours. Gold nanoparticles are introduced into the veins and guided by a spectroscope to locate problem tumours; they are then injected into the tumour along with an antibody to stop the tumour's ability to grow and, in some cases, shrink its size. Additionally, simple, cost effective and sensitive diagnostic tests are being developed for the early detection of prostate and other cancers.

Advanced Technology

Gold is already a well established material in the electronics industry and the use of gold is set to increase as electronics goes “nano” and nanotechnology becomes the key driver of future electronics solutions. Gold is being developed for conductive nanoparticle inks for plastic electronics because of its material compatibility, inherent durability and proven track record of reliability. Gold nanotechnologies have also been shown to offer functional benefits for visual display technologies such as touch sensitive screens and potentially for use in advanced data storage technologies including advanced flash memory devices.

Optics and Light

Our thirst for faster, smaller consumer technology products is straining current semiconductor chip design principles. How can we increase the overall computing power of chips without increasing energy consumption? Using light, not electricity, as the basis for future generations of computer chips has huge potential. The ability of gold to “shine” in a different way at the nanoscale may eventually lead to its use in building new optical chips for a range of cutting edge technologies.

Elixir of Life

The miraculous qualities of nano-gold were understood in a different way by the ancients, who devoted massive amounts of time and energy to alchemy and labelled a primitive form of colloidal gold the “Elixir of Life.” Many alchemists studied and searched their whole lives to find a means of creating a potion made from liquefied gold, believing that it would cure all sorts of bodily ailments and strengthen mental and physical capabilities. There are many extant writings discussing the Elixir of Life, but it is not clear whether the formula was ever discovered. A 16th-century alchemist named Paracelsus ultimately claimed that he had created the elusive potion. Scientists have known that it could be done since the time of the ancient Romans and the quest continues within the realms of nano-medicine. Given the rising uses of gold in nano-technology, is gold at the heart of 21st century alchemy?

Makeshift DIY AC Batteries Power Your Electronics

It's expensive replacing batteries for devices that don't have an AC adapter socket, but if you've got a little time you can make your own AC-powered “batteries” that will power your device without heavy modification.

Instructable user lspcrash found that his camera ran through batteries like water, but his camera didn't come with a DC input adapter which made it impossible to use a normal AC power source. Instead, he strikes gold by running AC adapter wire ends to specific contact points, powering the camera. It's a cheap, effective fix that requires little modification to your device.

You'll need a universal AC adapter (or one with the right voltage and amperage), the right-sized batteries, your device, along with a dowel, a drill, and some other basic tools. Take caution as this DIY involves electricity and sharp things, and be safe. The dowels need to be made into the same shape as the batteries you're replacing, with the wire threaded through it.

The device is now powered through the “batteries,” and can still accept the good ol' regular kind. DIY site Instructables has the whole tutorial breakdown, complete with step-by-step pictures below. Don't forget to let us know your experience making it below.

HP have made the HP EliteBook 8740w official now by making an announcement. The new laptop built by HP is quite a beast of a laptop in terms of processing power.

The HP 8740w is powered by either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor. Has either an ATI FirePro M7820 or an NVIDIA Quadro FX GPU installed which both have 1GB of DDR3 memory installed. A 320GB hard drive spinning at 7200rpm can be found inside. The display on the 8740w measures 17 inches and is classed as a Dreamcolor display (although that is an optional upgrade). DreamColor is capable of displaying more than 1 Billion colours which HP say is 64 times more than other screens.

Support for up to 16GB of memory is available for the laptop. A USB 3.0 connector can also be found on the laptop allowing for highspeed transfers between compatible USB 3.0 devices.

An optional backlit keyboard can be selected when purchasing the laptop which HP also mention is the first time an EliteBook variation has received this option.

The HP EliteBook 8740w is potentially a powerful machine if you opt for all the optional extras although a hefty price tag is also associated with this power with prices starting at $1999 going all the way up to $3899 for the top spec version. If you need power in a laptop form factor though then the EliteBook appears to be an excellent option although it’s always best to wait for full reviews when ordering any laptop at this price.
